Lapbook: The Door in the Wall

This was our historical fiction selection.  We spent 4 weeks on this unit.  I read aloud to Isaac, and he worked on the lapbook daily.

Isaac designed and made the cover. 

On the back, he copied and decorated a Bible verse which was at the beginning of the book.

Several of the minit books were made using blank lapbook templates from Homeschool Share.  I got “The Life of a Knight” minit book from a unit on knights at Homeschool Share and the two castle booklets from a unit on knights and castles from Homeschool Share (click on Chapter 3 Minit Books).

Science Lapbook: Weather

Almost forgot this one!  Here’s another lapbook we did…this one is all about weather.  Isaac made the cover and decorated other parts of the lapbook with his own art.  We got the booklets from Homeschool Helper Online and Homeschool Share here, here, here, and here (four different units).  Isaac also wrote a very interesting, fictional story about sushi and a tornado (we had just finished our Japan unit at the time, lol)!

 

Lapbook: Justin Morgan had a Horse

Our selection for realistic fiction was Justin Morgan had a Horse, by Marguerite Henry.  We spent 4 weeks on this unit, and here is our lapbook:

I love Isaac’s cover!  My only rules for lapbook covers are that they have to have a title, be related to our lapbook topic, and be colored.  Isaac does the design and artwork himself.

For this lapbook, I printed out blank templates from Homeschool Share, and we made our own booklets.  I did choose a few pre-made booklets.  The ones about Vermont came from here and here. The American National Anthem booklet came from here.  They’re all from Homeschool Share.

Science Lapbook: Outer Space

This was our last science lapbook, and I let Isaac design some of his own booklets, some with blank templates from Homeschool Share and some made totally from scratch (the sun, individual planets, stars booklet, and one of the rockets).  We did also use several outer space booklets I found on Homeschool Share, Homeschool Helper Online, and Lapbook Lessons.  The one on comets is here. I’m really having a lot of trouble finding the planet fact cards and the Space Travel booklet—I don’t know where on the web I found them!  I ought to write down sources as soon as I use them!  If you know where they are, please let me know.  If I ever find them, I will add the links!

Lapbook: The Apple and the Arrow

We read the book The Apple and the Arrow, by Mary and Conrad Buff.  This was our folktales selection.  We spent only 2 weeks on this unit.  Isaac designed his own lapbook cover.  I always enjoy seeing what he comes up with!

We made most of our own booklets using lapbook templates from Homeschool Share.  We also used some booklets from a unit study on The Apple and the Arrow from Homeschool Share (which I didn’t find until after we’d made most of our own)!

Science Lapbook: Water

We did a lapbook for each science unit.  This one was on water.  We got most of our lapbook templates for this unit from Homeschool Helper Online.  A few came from an Atlantic unit from Homeschool Share and the iceberg booklet also came from a unit at Homeschool Share. Isaac designed the cover by himself, including the title, with the water pouring out of the “r” faucet!
