Canada is the first country we studied this past school year. This year, Isaac and Moriah did geography together, so these units were done by both of them.
Week 1
Located Canada on globe and wall map, found capital and largest cities; stamped passport.
Began reading Anne of Green Gables (I wasn’t sure how Isaac would like a “girl” book, but he loved it!).
Listened to Canada Song from Geography Songs; reviewed provinces and territories and their capitals.
Looked at National Geographic photos of Nunavik
Watched these YouTube videos:

Looked at excerpts from the book That’s Very Canadian! on amazon.com. I would love to buy the book someday.
Discussed history and government, native people groups, explorers (Leif Erickson, Jacques Cartier, and John Cabot), Commonwealth, prime minister, currency, and languages
Week 2
Geography from A to Z—discussed coast, ocean, bay, arctic, tundra, permafrost, forest, lake, glacier, mountain, mountain range, volcano, river, prairie, waterfall
Read from Children Just Like Me (Levi, p. 23) and filled out notebook page (Homeschool Creations).
Discussed Canadian symbols—Royal Canadian Mounted Police, maple leaf, Canada Goose, beaver, Common Loon, totem pole, anthems
Read The Thirsty Moose, by David Orme (based on a Native American folk tale—it’s not necessarily Canada, but it could be!)
Watched movie Fly Away Home (takes place mostly in Canada and involves Canada geese)
Sports—ice hockey and lacrosse
World Indoor Lacrosse Championships (YouTube)
We watched a video on ice hockey, too, but it’s been removed since then.
Mountie TP roll craft (DLTK)
Read Canadian folk tale from Around the World in 80 Tales.
Filled out a notebook page (Homeschool Creations).
Watched the movie Anne of Green Gables
