Today I took my son charity shop hopping with me, which he actually enjoys. I didn’t find as much as I had hoped, but at least that means I still have money left! There are other nearby towns with loads of charity shops…I just have to talk my husband into taking me (I don’t drive in England…I’m too chicken). I’m still hunting for objects I can use with Gabriela in a Montessori-style way. This is what I found today:
1. A set of ladies’ handkerchiefs. I personally don’t use handkerchiefs, so I didn’t have any on hand. This is for a beginning folding activity.
2. This is a building set, as I’m sure you can tell. The opposite side is in English, but this side was prettier. I thought this would work well for a beginning nuts and bolts activity, even though they’re plastic. Eventually I’ll get some real metal ones.
3. Happy Families Card game. Our preschool program, which Gabriela will use next year, has a theme unit on family. I thought this game would go well with that unit. It’s also good for matching. Another ELC product! ELC (Early Learning Centre) can be a bit pricey, so I’m always happy to find ELC toys and games at charity shops.
We also found 3 books, including one of Enid Blyton’s mysteries which are Isaac’s favorites!

Terrific finds! Makes me itch for yard sale season here.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing what you find in Charity shops in England! That would be a dream come true to me...thrift shopping in England! So fun! And I love how the Happy Family Cards have the people addressed properly with Miss and Master--you'd never find that over here! What a treasure!
